Vale (Brazil) acquires Rio Tinto (Argentina) for U$S 850M

Cia Vale do Rio Doce SA acquires Rio Tinto Ltd-Potash Assets from Rio Tinto PLC
Cia Vale do Rio Doce SA (CV) acquired the potash assets, located in the provinces of Mendoza and Neuquen, of Rio Tinto PLC (RT) , an iron, coal and copper mining company, for 2.974 bil Argentine pesos ($850 mil US) in cash. The transaction included the Regina project in the province of Saskatchewan in Canada. Concurrently, CV definitively agreed to acquire the iron assets of RT.
