Brazil’s Condom Market Set to Expand as Hypermarcas Buys Jontex

Hypermarcas SA, a Brazilian consumer products company whose shares more than doubled this year, purchased the Jontexand Olla condom brands for $221 million to expand in a country where usage is less than half the level in the U.S., Chief Executive Officer Claudio Bergamosaid.
Hypermarcas said yesterday it bought Jontex, the leading condom brand in Brazil, from New Brunswick, New Jersey-based Johnson & Johnson for $101 million. The Barueri-based company also purchased the Olla, Lovetex, Microtex and other brands from Industria Nacional de Artefatos de Latex SA for $120 million.
